Mentoring, Anyone?

Galatians 2:2 – I went because it was specially and divinely revealed to me that I should go, and I put before them the Gospel [declaring to them that] which I preach among the Gentiles. However, [I presented the matter] privately before those of repute, [for I wanted to make certain, by thus at first confining my communication to this private conference] that I was not running or had not run in vain [guarding against being discredited either in what I was planning to do or had already done]. (AMP)

I wish I had learned the lesson in today's verse years ago, before I popped out my own half-baked, unformed Christian ideals onto a waiting audience. A word or two from the wise would have helped me correct any errors before I spouted them in a more public place. I embarrassed myself on more than one occasion and had my mistakes corrected in a much larger forum. Whew, the personal words I would like to carve out of people's memory banks! It's too late for that now. All I can do is to be sure that any other words I speak will contain godly wisdom, insight, and truth.

Every one of us needs someone in our life who will take time to help us walk the right path. The world calls them "mentors", but God calls them "those of repute". Need some life direction? Why not ask one of those folks for a few minutes of their time? Learned a few lessons? Be willing to pass them on!

Prayer: Father God, make us willing to ask for and listen to direction from another in the areas where we falter, and help us to be willing to speak truth into the lives of others where we can. Amen.
