Safe In His Arms

Psalm 91:4 – His huge outstretched arms protect you — under them you're perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. (MSG)

A couple of days after Christmas, I went skating at the ice rink. Around and around I went. Suddenly, I envisioned my father skating with me. What pleasure that brought me! My father and I used to go skating when I was in my teenage years. He would grip my arm with his and hold me close to his body. He would never let me fall. He was tall and secure, and I trusted him wholeheartedly. I loved him with all my heart. We glided around the rink like a king and queen. Our skates moved together in unison. It felt wonderful to be so safe, wrapped in my father's arms of security and love.

My father is gone now, but that memory stays with me and reminds me of my heavenly Father's love for us. When we are having a tough time, sometimes it's helpful if we can imagine that God has us in His arms, just like my father did. We are safe, we are secure, and we can trust Him with our lives and our children's lives. He will hold us steady because we are children of the King.

Prayer: Our heavenly Father, thank You for the love that You have for us. Thank You that we can feel safe in Your arms, no matter what is going on in our lives. We love You, Lord. In Your name we pray. Amen.
