Deuteronomy 32:4 – He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. (NIV)
Psalm 40:2 – He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. (NIV)
I try to walk my dog every day, rain or shine. It seems that the rainy season has finally hit, and so recently, I had to walk in a torrential downpour. I was the only person silly enough to be out walking in such dreadful weather. It was windy and cold, and the rain was coming down slanted and hard, and I was very, very wet. Soon my socks were making a "squish squish" sound as I walked along. Since I was alone, I began to praise God and sing loudly.
I began to think about how frail we humans are. Life rains down on us some pretty horrible things. We mortal souls are tossed about all the time. Our moods change a lot, just like the weather: it rains, then the winds come, and then all of sudden there's a rainbow, and the sun comes out. One day we're depressed, the next we're sad, or frustrated, or angry, then we are victorious.
But what about God? Is He fickle? Is He swayed when we are desperate for an answer? No and no. It's a good thing that God never changes! He doesn't change with the seasons; He doesn't change when we beg Him for mercy. He is steadfast and secure, solid, like a rock. God knows best what we need, and He will not be swayed by our desires, regardless of how desperate-sounding we are. If we are patient and let God do His work, we will see the rainbow and the hope, and we can be glad that He is completely to be relied upon, because God never changes.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, You are an awesome God. You never change, regardless of how desperate we are feeling. Help us to realize that we need to be patient and to wait upon You for the answers that we need. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
