A Gingerbread Christmas

1 Timothy 1:3-4 – As I urged you when I went into Macedonia — remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. (NKJV)

Many children in this world have only a gingerbread Christmas, making gingerbread houses, men, and cookies. We have all heard the childhood fable of the Gingerbread Man, and many of us have read it to our children.

One Christmas I attended a play by Grade One students. Afterwards in talking to a teacher, I told her the children did well, but I could not help but notice by its absence that there was no reference to the real meaning of Christmas. She replied, "Oh, we have to be very careful!" We Christians know what she was referring to, as the old traditional Christmas carols are not allowed in many of our schools because we might offend those who are not Christians.

There is nothing wrong with eating gingerbread or hearing childhood imaginary stories, but alas! too many of us do not pass on the story of Christ's birth. We parents, grandparents, and educators have a mission to communicate the Word, not only to the children but to all God's people. Let us not leave it all up to the teachers, as they are bound by man-made laws in their chosen careers.

Matthew 10:32-33 – Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Father, help us to stand up and be counted whenever we get the opportunity to tell others about the wonderful gift of Jesus, Your beloved Son. May we make sure that all have more than just a gingerbread Christmas. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
