Galatians 5:13 – For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (NASB)
This year we had a big ant hill in our back alley. Those little ants fascinate me. As I watched them, it seemed to me that they were just running every which way, back and forth, with no purpose.
I know that they do have a purpose. Even though I couldn't see it, I also know that there is team work in an ant hill. As I was looking around, I discovered a smaller ant hill a short distance away. Just recently, it has been brought to my attention that there is a larger ant hill across the back alley. I wondered if ant hills get to a certain size and then some go off to start another home — still connected to the larger home, though.
I saw a picture of our church there in the back alley. It is so large, we can't possibly know everyone. We can't feel connected because of the number of people. Therefore, we have many small groups getting together every day of the week, through which we can connect with a few people. We are a group to serve one another and encourage one another. How great it is to feel we belong. By being connected to a few, we are connected to the whole.
How are we doing in the area of serving? Do we feel we belong in our church? I would like to suggest that by serving one another in love, we will feel like we belong.
Prayer: Thank You for our church. Thank You for small groups where we can feel connected in a large group of people. Help us to serve one another in love. By doing so, we do feel connected. Amen.
