Feeling His Presence

Psalm 92:1,4 – It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High. For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the work of your hands. (NIV)

A member of my family had undergone serious surgery, and many people were praying for my loved one and me. I went to the hospital early in the morning and returned late in the evening. As I observed the beautiful scenery during this drive, I felt His presence.

It seemed nature had never been more beautiful. Flowers of every hue of the rainbow greeted me with promise, just as in the days of Noah. The rolling hills and green pastures provided inspiration for my anxious soul. I felt as though God was speaking to me, lifting me up, through the mundane things along the familiar roadside. In the evenings, I used this time to talk with Him, thanking Him for bringing my loved one through the day.

In the mornings, I prayed for strength to face the day. One particular morning as I walked toward my car, I bent down to look at a blade of grass, and I saw a spider working her web between the blade of grass and a day lily. The web had caught a few dewdrops, making them look like diamonds as they caught and reflected the light of the sun. Somehow, then I knew that the Creator, Who made the sun to shine on the dewdrops in the spider's web, would also care for my loved one and me.

When we open our hearts to Him and enjoy the beauty He has created, we can feel His presence and the prayers of those who pray for us.

Prayer: Lord, open our hearts so we may enjoy the beauty of Your creation and hear You when You speak to us. Amen.
