Wagons Away

Isaiah 30:21 – Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, "This is the way; walk in it." (NIV)

While in a local farm supply store, I noticed a brightly painted wagon. Wagons and "dad-made" wooden scooters were an integral part of my childhood. Both could be used as a means of transport. We had a wagon with a wooden top and beautifully varnished box. There were racks that fit on the ends and sides if it were to be loaded. They had bright red posts. It was a sharp-looking vehicle to us children.

My brother and I were close in age and size. If we raced the wagon together, he would put his left knee in the box and push with his right leg flexed. I would put my right knee in the box and push from the other side. We beat everyone racing on the playground, as long as we both steered in the same direction, since we both held onto the handle.

There was a dirt path. Sometimes there were ruts to be avoided or tall grass to slow us down. So it is in life. If we steer with God's hand on the handle guiding, we will win the race.

Matthew 7:14 – But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it. (NIV)

Prayer: Our heavenly Father, we realize that there are times in life when we veer away from You. We pray for Your help to see that we need You as our guide every day. We ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
