In our ladies' small group, we are learning to say a simple "Thank you" when someone compliments us. Most people try to minimize a compliment, so this is a learning process.
We also give each group member a hug when we leave. Last week, one lady hugged me and said, "You always smell so good!" to which I replied, "Thank you."
Our lives are to be fragrant. They are to be filled with Jesus Christ's fragrance — a sweet smell to those around us.
2 Corinthians 2:15a,16b – Our lives are a fragrance presented by Christ to God. To those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. (NLT)
I thought about the things in our lives that would prevent His fragrance from flowing through us. We could be burdened with work, ambition, hobbies, and sports. We could fill our lives with meaningless activity, with busyness, or addictions. We could be resentful, bitter, or hurting badly.
When these things are in our lives, Jesus' fragrance may be prevented from flowing through us. We need to spend time with Him daily, allowing Him to remove what needs to be removed and allowing Him to spray His sweet fragrance into our hearts so others can smell His fragrance in us as we pass by.
2 Timothy 2:15 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (KJV)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, our hearts yearn to be filled with Your fragrance. Yet too often, they are filled with rotten things. Please reveal those to us, and spray Your sweet fragrance deep into our hearts. We want others to perceive Your scent in our lives. Amen.
