Judges 5:3 – Listen, you kings! Pay attention, you mighty rulers! For I will sing to the Lord. I will lift up my song to the Lord, the God of Israel. (NLT)
I have fond memories of summer mornings. When we lived in our home by the lake, I was often awakened by the ghastly squawk of a duck swimming to his breakfast site. It was quite evident by the tone that came out of his beak that he hadn't made it through the audition process in order to sing in the local bird choir. However, he was doing an excellent job at announcing the arrival of the dawn. All around the lake, the sun's rays pushed back the curtain of night and draped its golden ribbons across the deep blue water. As an onlooker, I couldn't help but marvel at how God revealed Himself through the beauty of nature.
One Sunday morning, the bird choir was interrupted by another sound. One note after another pealed across the still lake. Some visitor had come home and entered the little white church in the village and was playing the hymn, "When I survey". As I stood at the window to greet the dawn, I couldn't help but marvel at how God revealed His love for me through the message of the cross.
Like the words in the closing part of the hymn, the love God's Son showed for us when He died on the cross in our place, such love, demands our lives, our souls, and our all.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the sights and sounds that serve as reminders of just how much You love us. Amen.
