It's actually part of my "Blooming Idiots" clown outfit, but even on its own, my hat is quite outrageous! Every inch of its wide-brim straw base is covered with silk flowers of every size, colour, and description.
When I wore "the hat" to a dress-up affair, I suddenly became very visible. People spotted me right away. Some folks laughingly commented on my style, while others made sure to stay on the far side of the room. They pointed a finger or two, but they didn't want to get close, in case we showed up together in a photo.
Ah yes, wearing "the hat" of Christ makes us stand out. Some will comment on our lifestyle, and a few will keep their distance because they don't want to be associated with the "hat people". Whatever their stance, folks who do not yet know Jesus personally have clear ideas on how the "people of the hat" ought to live. They wonder how we can profess to wear "the hat" and still be customers at the local gambling casino, use God's name in vain, and quarrel with the folks next door.
Is our hat the kind that says "Christ"?
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, may our life so bloom for You that every person in our sphere of influence will want to wear Your hat! In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
