Philippians 4:11-13 – Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. (NASB)
My hubby says we should be grateful and loudly thank God for leftovers. It means we have abundance (and that I don't have to cook!). That got us thinking about the other kinds of "too much" in our lives.
Noisy children when we are trying to nap means someone is around if we need help. Second-hand clothing means that someone loved us enough to share out of their "too much". An overflowing bathtub provides enough water to wash the bathroom floor. The local library generously stores all our books for us. Dieting off a few pounds around our middle states that we have more than enough to eat. Tithes and offerings are no burden — just a Heavenly Savings Plan.
It's great fun to look for the abundance that is readily available in every area of our lives. It's just a matter of recognizing that no matter the circumstances, we can make it through anything when we realize Christ is our strength. All together now! Let's speak it aloud: today's circumstance is God's blessing to us!
Prayer: God, please forgive us when we whine. Everything passes through Your hands to us. We intend to be grateful to You in every single instance of our lives, and we trust Christ to get us through them. In Jesus' name. Amen.
