Listen while you read: "Hiding In Thee"1 (Lyrics)

Psalm 139:14,17 – I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! (KJV)

I love playing the piano. I started taking lessons when I was ten years old. In a few short years, I was playing all over the keyboard. It was so much fun.

During this time, I played the old hymns for a few families getting together at home for a church service. After I got married, I then played in a small church for the congregation to sing. As the years rolled by, I played for congregational singing and often accompanied special vocal selections. I learned how to add runs, trills, and floaties all over the keyboard. It was so cool!

The church we attend now has about a thousand people in attendance. There is a full band playing on stage. I am learning to play the synthesizer. It is quite intimidating. Often I am playing only one little note, or maybe one chord, at a time. It is very hard for me to get used to doing that, since my hands flew over the piano keys. The synthesizer is a teeny little part of the whole. Sometimes it seems insignificant, but it does enhance the music. It is a valued instrument in the whole band.

As I thought about this recently, I also thought about our lives. In the whole plan of creation, our lives at times seem quite insignificant. I am one person in a family of 19. I am one person in a church of 1,000. I am one person in a city of 45,000. Each of us is just one little person in a world full of millions of people. Yet God planned for us to be born. He planned who our parents would be. He planned where we would live. He planned the church we would serve in. Let's not forget how important we are to God. We are significant.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for making us exactly like You wanted us to be. Thank You that You have placed us where You want us to be. Help us to remember constantly how much You value us. Help us to remember that our lives do enhance others' lives. We are important to You in the whole plan of the universe. Thank You. Amen.
