Hebrews 9:14 – How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! (NIV)
A pastor friend of mine in Scotland served a little country church in one of the nation's wealthiest areas. Most of his small congregation was made up of successful business people, who had retired to the parish where he ministered. One morning, after worship, one of the richest members of the church came up to him and complained.
She said, "Pastor, I do wish you would stop preaching about sin and blood at services. It makes me giddy to think about them."
Needless to say, my friend didn't stop preaching about sin and the cleansing effects of Christ's blood. Sadly, about a month later, the woman left the church, never to be heard or seen in the congregation again.
Christ's blood is as essential to our souls as our own blood is to our bodies. Without His sacrifice, we could not dare to hope in being restored to God's favour. Without the shedding of His blood, we could not experience the cleansing of our sins. There's power in the blood of Jesus, and thankfully, we are the ones who will be eternally blessed by it.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your blood transformed the whole world and took away the contamination of sin. Your sacrifice on the cross sanctified us, so that we may one day be presented by You to the one true and living God. Thank You for giving Your blood. Thank You for cleansing our souls. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
