Interior Cleanliness

Matthew 23:27 – Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. (KJV)

We have been doing some house renovations recently — both inside and outside. The outside is all done now, but the inside is just beginning. There is some drywall work done but a lot more to do. We are taking some walls out and the mess is still ahead of us.

From the outside of our house, it looks beautiful. When one little grandson drove up with his parents, he said, "Grandma has a new house!" Inside, though, it doesn't look very new.

My thoughts turned to people. Some of us look really good on the outside, but what is actually going on inside that no-one can see? Is it as clean and shiny on the inside? Do we have it all together like we portray?

Only God knows our hearts. Only He can clean up the inside, and that is only if we let Him. Let's open our hearts to Him and let Him do the work in us that we so desperately need.

Psalm 51:2 – Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (KJV)

Prayer: Father in heaven, we don't want to be hypocrites. We want to be clean and beautiful on the inside as well as on the outside. Please reveal to us the "dead men's bones" inside us that we need to face. Help us not to deny them and put on a good exterior. We trust You, Jesus. Amen.
