Proverbs 25:25 – Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. (NRSV)
It wasn't even a holiday, but we were having a party. The doctor's office had just called to say that I was now considered to be cancer-free! My mom and dad were so happy and excited that they brought down a bucket of fast-food chicken with all the fixings. Other friends came to help us celebrate. There we all were, in the middle of the workweek, laughing, talking, and enjoying the good news!
God so enjoys His Good News that He wrote an entire book about it. He sent His Son to die for the sins of the world. That Son, Jesus, rose from the dead and is alive right now!
When we hear good news, we have a party and pass it on. God has given us His Good News! The people who need to hear it suffer from a disease far worse than cancer. They are separated from God.
Got any plans for a Good News party today?
Prayer: Lord, don't let us ever keep the Good News of Jesus Christ to ourselves. Help us by word and deed to shout it from the rooftops to those who need to hear it! In Jesus' name. Amen.
