Seek And You Will Find

Deuteronomy 4:29 – But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. (NIV)

I don't know why I am so attracted to them. Perhaps the bright colours remind me of a happy time in my childhood when all seemed right with the world. In any case, every year, even though I have plenty, I find myself walking up and down the aisles of the Christmas decorations in the local department store. This year was no exception. I admired the clip-on birds that reminded me of the last ornament my mother put on our tree before she hung the boxes of icicles and the angel with the velvet dress and gold wings.

As I was turning away and hurrying to rejoin my husband, I overheard a little girl of about three say to her parents, "Mommy, daddy, here's baby Jesus!" I looked back at the small girl, and her face was beaming as she lifted a glass ornament of a manger and baby Jesus up to show her parents. Amid all of the ornaments in the store — the tinsel, brightly coloured baubles, and ribbons — this little girl had found the one that meant anything of significance.

Today as we celebrate the Christmas season, I hope we stop long enough amidst our parcels, cards, and preparations to find the Christ of Christmas.

Prayer: – Dear God, help us to seek You out during this busy season, so that we can turn to our friends and family and say, "Here's baby Jesus!" — the true meaning of Christmas. Amen.
