The Credenza

Ephesians 5:25-27 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. (NIV)

Our church was presenting a musical evening entitled Cadenza. At first, some of us confused it with a credenza, an armoire type of furniture! When we learned that cadenza is a musical term for a little something special, we knew we were in for a treat.

I am pleased to report that the only similarity to furniture was the polish. Cadenza proved to be an exceptional musical feast. The musicians and singers presented Christ in song, using everything from carols and sign, to violin, rock and country! High style, professional, exciting, and entertaining, our church Cadenza producers and performers did not disappoint.

Even "Credenza" friends, who don't regularly attend church, loved it. Afterwards, they said, "All those people are from your church? It sounds like a great place! Don't forget to invite us again next year! We want to go again!"

Sometimes God's church is not all it could be, but when we get it right, the world wants what we have. And what we have is Jesus.

Prayer: O God, You created us with talents and gifts meant for Your honour. Lord, help us to get it right, not just in the spectacular events of church life, but also in the board meetings, the kitchens, the Sunday Schools. Give us the kind of heart that displays Your holiness. Help us be a church without spot or wrinkle, for the sake of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
