Ephesians 6:15 – And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. (AMP)
I must admit it shocked me a little. I couldn't help but think of all the money and space required to keep up such a hobby. Then of course there are the sore feet derived from heels too high for the human foot to withstand. I checked my own closet to be sure I wasn't falling into the same trap. (No such luck! Just three or four pairs of serviceable shoe leather.)
Most of the contestants owned more than one hundred fifty pairs. Some had created walls of special racks to display them. Others used elaborate storage systems based on colour and heel size. Forget Imelda Marcos. This Canadian shoe contest had plenty of women vying for the title of top shoe lady.
There are shoes that are far more comfortable for our tootsies. They will fit people of all sizes and shapes. They aren't meant to gather dust on a wall or shelf, but instead they help us get ready to face — and defeat — the enemy.
Prayer: Father God, You know our needs better than we do. Sometimes we yearn for the flashy instead of the longwearing, but You know that sturdy is better for us. Help us to keep our spiritual shoes tied and ready for action. We don't want to slip, fall, or stumble our way through life. Help us to be finalists in the shoe leather contest that really counts. Amen.
