Psalm 119:148 – My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. (NIV)
Joshua 1:5 – No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you. (NIV)
Recently, my daughter and I were having a mother/daughter chat. As we talked, we started remembering some of the more challenging episodes in our lives: her leaving home for the first year of university, and searching for her first job. Most involved changes: some exciting, like the arrival of her nieces and nephew; some harder to deal with, as members of our family faced health or financial issues.
At one point, she asked, "Mom, is it just me, or was our family hit particularly hard that spring?" As we talked, we came to the same conclusion. Yes, there had been an unusual number of challenges that year, but in each situation, God had given us what we needed to see us through.
What did we receive from God? One of the most meaningful gifts we can receive in situations like this is not someone who has piles of advice for us, but someone to give of the gift of themselves, not to make us feel hurried, but someone to listen, to care, and to be there for us. We found that as each situation presented itself, God was there, listening, pouring out His love and care, giving of Himself to help us through every trial.
Today, some of us are experiencing health issues, broken relationships, or uncertainties about our finances. These situations make for difficult times. But we don't have to go through them alone. God is there to listen to our faintest prayer; God cares and will see us through.
Prayer: Dear God, we want to say thank You for listening to our every prayer and for helping us through every situation in our lives. Amen.
