All I Need Is Direction

Psalm 143:8 – Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. (NIV)

The phone rang early this morning. I was the only one up to take the call. On the other end was a familiar voice, that of our son. For some time he had talked of bringing some topsoil to our home to enrich the present soil in our flowerbeds.

It seemed that every weekend when he was off work, it had rained so hard he couldn't even get in to where the soil was, let alone deliver it. This day was bright and sunny — and had been so for a few days. The soil was finally dried out, and he was ready to deliver it.

He commented, "I have two wheelbarrows, rakes, the whole works. You don't need to do anything; all I need is direction."

I was tidying up the kitchen, expecting company that same day (everything always seeming to happen at once), but I had no choice, for we had been waiting for the weather to clear up, and this was our son's only chance to get the soil to us. His words echoed in my head, "All I need is direction." I thought, "How true; that is all most of us need, direction."

Where do we get our direction from and when?

We get our direction from God when He calls us. Sometimes we have all the tools, but we still need direction, someone to show us where and how to spread the Word and do the work God has chosen for us. Other times we are able to give direction to others as we receive it from the Lord.

Let us take advantage of all opportunities, no matter whether it is convenient for us or not, to give good guidance and direction using the Christian tools we have at hand.

Prayer: Almighty and everlasting Father, we come to You asking that You might show us the way in which we should go. Enable us to give good direction to our fellow believers, that we might work together spreading Your Word, using all the tools You have given to us. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
