Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (KJV)
Matthew 25:35-36 – For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (KJV)
I have a friend who is the epitome of "the fruit of the spirit". She taught me about "passing it on" long before it became popular. She is also a fantastic knitter and has graced me with many of her pieces over the years.
The latest one was a beautiful purple prayer shawl. Oh, how I loved the soft warmth of it wrapped around me! Along with the shawl comes a little card stating that the shawl is intended to be a reminder of God's loving presence and care; indicating that it is a gift for every occasion: joyful, sorrowful, chosen or unchosen; and expressing the hope that as it is worn, the recipient will grow in awareness of God's blessings surrounding us. It also states that the recipient may wear the shawl or some day be directed by God to pass it on to someone else.
Although I loved the shawl, I didn't use it much, and did feel that someone else could benefit far more from the comfort of its soft warmth.
As God would will it, not only was the perfect person put in my path to receive the prayer shawl, but also in telling about it, several others have been inspired to knit a prayer shawl. These too, will also each be passed on to yet another "perfect person".
God lets us light the lives of others when we listen and follow His lead.
Prayer: Our Father in heaven, may we always be open to Your guidance where the happiness of others is involved. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
