1 Corinthians 12:4 – Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. (KJV)
Genesis 40:20 – And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. (KJV)
Many's the time I stand in awe of a flower or tree shoot which has spread and sprung up some distance from the main plant. While I understand how it happens, I cannot help but delight in this extra "gift" that's been given.
So too, am I in awe when I open an e-mail to find someone asking me a question about, or thanking me for a devotional which had appeared on Daily sometimes as long as four years before. More often than not, they have been searching the Internet for a phrase, a name, a quotation. The wonderful workings of the Web and its myriad of links has led them to my devotional via the Daily archives because it offered some relevance to their search.
Whether their replies pertain to current or previous devotionals, a recurrent phrase reverberates throughout Daily Feedback: the message that they had read was exactly what they had needed at that moment!
In light of the fact that devotionals are often written and submitted months in advance of their appearance on Daily, how awesome it is that people are led to read a particular devotional on a day when they needed something by way of God speaking to them.
And just like the little shoots which appear farther from the original plant, so it is just as awesome that through the Daily archives and the workings of the Web, His Word continues to spread and touch people's lives years after it was originally posted.
God's timing is impeccable, and just as often as not, we cannot grasp how far-reaching are the acts we perform on His behalf, no matter how big or how small.
That said, may this devotional also serve to give thanks for the inception of Daily eight years ago today, and for the wonderful pool of volunteers who keep it going in every single aspect.
Prayer: May we continue to serve You daily in whatever way You choose to use us, without thought of recognition or reward. May these be our daily gifts to You. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
