Bank Machines

Listen while you read: "Jesus Bids Us Shine"1 (Lyrics)

Psalm 50:10 – For every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. (NIV)

Although I like meeting my bank teller face to face, when I'm in a hurry, I like the convenience of the modern bank machine. Recently, after I had finished my business at one of these machines, I stepped aside to organize my money and allow the next person to step forward. About to leave, I realized that I didn't have a record of my transaction so I went back to retrieve it. "Excuse me," I said to the lady at the machine. "Did I leave my transaction slip on the counter?"

"Maybe. There's one here. Is this yours?" she asked. Her body language said more than her words, for she held the white slip out to me as if it were a used tissue paper. "I'm relieved this infinitesimal amount isn't mine," she added under her breath, as she turned back to the bank machine to complete her transaction.

Perhaps, like me, you don't have much in your bank account, but every one who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour is a child of Almighty God. His children have riches beyond compare, for He owns "the cattle on a thousand hills".

Prayer: Dear God, we humbly bow in Your holy presence to meditate on the full extent of the treasure we have because of our position in Your family. Thank You for all You have given us. Amen.
