Does God Answer Prayer?

Philippians 4:6 – Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank him for his answers. (TLB)

It was mid-January, and the coldest January in recent memory. My car is relatively new and well cared for, so imagine my shock and frustration when I went to go out one frosty morning and it wouldn't start. The Motor League was called, and, after an hour's wait, their truck arrived, and I was up and running. The operator suggested what he thought to be the problem, and I went immediately to the service station for what he said would remedy it.

Now my concern was for the appointment that I had with my doctor the next day. As I went to bed that night, I prayed, "God, You know how important it is that I make that appointment. Please make my car start in the morning."

Morning dawned colder than ever. I kept asking God to make the car start. Then a neighbour came to my door asking to borrow my car. Since he wanted it before I needed it, I said, "Yes, if it will start." He offered to go out to give it a try so that it could warm up. In a minute, he was back saying that the engine wouldn't turn over. I thought, "No miracle!"

Then my neighbour said that there was someone next door who would boost it with a cable. In a few minutes, he was back, the car had been started, and my problem was solved. God didn't perform the miracle that I had expected, but I think that He answered my prayer, don't you?

Prayer: Father, You constantly surprise us with the ways that You answer our prayers. Our joy is in knowing that You always do answer, and that You never let us down. Thank You again for being there for us. Amen.
