My Jesus! My Lord! My Saviour!

Romans 10:13 – For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NIV)

In the year of our Lord 2000, I traveled to Israel. With a group in the Holy Land, I came to experience the steps of Jesus, as we walked His route through Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday and His triumphant entry into Jerusalem, on to the Upper Room, across the Kidron Valley to the Garden of Gethsemane, then on the painful journey that led through the narrow streets of Jerusalem, finally coming to the Place of the Skull, Golgotha, and the garden where they laid our Saviour in the tomb. The special Sunday service was attended by thousands in the garden that holds the now-empty tomb, the tomb that has been empty for over two thousand years.

I look back on the events that took place: the betrayal, the scourging of Jesus, the suffering, and the shame of the cross. Here God took His Son, His one and only Son, and placed all our sin upon Him.

At the moment that He died on the cross, the earth shook, the rocks split, the heavens were darkened, and the veil of the temple that enclosed the Holy of Holies was torn in two by the hand of God. The now-open veil lets us enter into His presence to seek and receive forgiveness of our sins, so that one day we will come into His presence to live with Him in eternity.

What a sacrifice He made! Oh! that we might all be moved so deeply that all we can say is "My Jesus! My Lord! My Saviour!"

Prayer: Dear Lord, we come to You this day to give thanks for Your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. We thank You for Your love given so freely to us by Your grace. We pray for any who have not yet claimed the prize, and pray that this day they will give their hearts to Jesus, praying, "Dear Jesus, thank You for suffering and dying on the cross for me. I now invite You into my heart, asking forgiveness for my sin, that I might live forever with You in Your eternal kingdom." Amen.
