Isaiah 43:1 – But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine." (NKJV)
There are these two precious little girls in our congregation. One is Abby and one is Molly. I was there for their births. I baptized both of them. But for some reason or another, I constantly get their names mixed up. One Sunday, I had called Abby, "Molly", when I heard her explain to her friend as they walked away, "Looks like by now he would know my name!" Of course she was right. Everyone likes to be called by name, and no one likes to be called by the wrong name or to have their name mispronounced.
There are many things that I rejoice in each day, but one of these is that God knows my name. He gets it right all the time. And not only that, in calling my name, He affirms that I am His. Today, as I struggle with the many things that will confront me, as I deal with people and the difficulties they encounter, as I do some things I enjoy, and as I have to do some things I don't enjoy, I will rejoice in the fact that God knows my name and I am His. That may be one of the more significant discoveries I will make all day long.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for everything. Today, I thank You for a personal relationship with You, in which I affirm that You know my name. As I call on Your name, I hear You, I feel You, and I experience You. My day will be better. Thank You, Lord — in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
