Listen while you read: "O Holy Night"1 (Lyrics) |
Luke 1:28,31-33 – And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women! And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." (NKJV)
Can you even imagine the magnitude of the wonder that Mary must have felt — to know that she was going to give birth to the Saviour of the whole world!
Shortly after we started adoption proceedings, I was with child, after being told that this was highly unlikely. Then, five years later, along came our second daughter. This was a wonder to us.
Still, I cannot fully comprehend how Mary must have felt to know that God was sending — through her — his only Son to save the world.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)
Let us pause and look at this precious gift, which God sent to a hurting world. He came to save us, and He still loves us. All we have to do is turn to Him in repentance and faith for forgiveness. God has blessed us when He sent His Son to save us.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for Your Son, Jesus, the precious babe You sent so long ago to save us. As we approach Christmas Day and the celebration of Your wonderful gift, may we be ever mindful of this gift, which was wrapped in swaddling clothes. Help us to open Your gift and accept it. Amen.
