Jeremiah 50:6 – My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray; they have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place. (NKJV)
Recently I forgot where my resting place was. When Sunday came, my husband asked if I was going to church. As I had not been well all week, I felt more like staying in bed.
I did get up, and had moped around for awhile, when my husband said, "You may as well stay home." That was all that was needed to send me off to bed to rest. So he went off to church without me.
On asking about the attendance that Sunday, he told me there were 99 in attendance, but one was missing! I expressed surprise, as we do not usually have that many, but we had a lot of visitors that day. I felt very much like the one lost sheep that Christ is always searching for. I have in the past been such a lost sheep, and Christ has found me over and over.
Like me, when you miss going to church, do you feel like you have not received rest for your soul? By joining others in worshipping God, we gather strength and refreshment for the coming week, and are not lost sheep who do not know their resting place.
Isaiah 28:12 – To whom He said, "This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," and, "This is the refreshing"; yet they would not hear. (NKJV)
Prayer: Father God, when we give in to that weakness to just crawl back into bed, seek out Your lost sheep and inspire us to go to church to worship You. Help us to know that, in doing so, we will be restored and refreshed and find our resting place in You. Amen.
