Matthew 5:14 – You are the light of the world — like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. (NLT)
Joshua 24:15 – As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (KJV)
We recently had a provincial election in Nova Scotia. Around the countryside, my attention has been drawn to the numerous signs of the prospective candidates. I noticed that some homes had signs planted on their front lawn. It was then that I realized that, by planting the sign, a given household was making a proud declaration in support of the ideology of either the party or the personal candidate indicated on the sign, or both.
The political signs seemed to ask me if I, as a follower of Jesus, demonstrate the same boldness of faith to others in my daily walk. Do I proudly declare the One in Whom I place my support and trust? The political signs also reminded me of the great gift of democracy that we enjoy in this land, and the greatest gift, Jesus, our salvation! With the sun casting its glory over the ocean, political signs everywhere, I prayed:
Prayer: Heavenly Father, giver of every good and perfect gift, it is with grateful hearts that we give thanks for Your gift of political democracy, for the gift of political leaders, for the gift of Christian servants, and for the gift of faithful witnesses. Most of all, we give thanks for Your great gift of salvation, paid in full at Calvary. Thanks be to God! Amen.
