Taking Time

Listen while you read: "The Wise May Bring Their Learning"1 (Lyrics)

2 Corinthians 6:2 – For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. (NIV)

"That's the problem," my friend said, when we were visiting together one evening. We had shared a meal together, and then spent a couple of hours talking and sharing. Three times during our conversation, the phone rang. Two of these interruptions were to cancel something: a worship team practice and attendance at a baptism, and the third was to offer an excuse why their child hadn't attended Bible School earlier that day. After the third call, my friend sighed and said, "Life is too busy now. People don't have time for one another."

When I look around me, I have to agree with her; our busyness is robbing us of time to be with family and friends. But I wonder: is our busyness leaving us little or no time to nurture our relationship with God? Perhaps it's time for us to examine our lives for a moment, and ask ourselves if we are in danger of losing our churches, homes, and families. What about our relationship with God? Has it grown lukewarm because we've been too busy to pray?

Prayer: Dear God, in these busy days, remind us how important it is to take the time to spend with You, with our families, and in our church. Amen.
