Revelation 5:6 – Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the centre of the throne. (NIV)
Revelation 7:17 – For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. (NIV)
Last year, I joined a water aerobics class at the local gym. This class is made up of older ladies, retired, and looking for a fun way to stay in shape. The class has turned out to be the highlight of our day. Not only are we firming our bodies, but we are also making our minds and spirits sharper. It has created a great social gathering where we have all become good friends.
I have come to realize that exercise is important for the spiritual life as well as for our physical bodies. We need to pray, study the Bible and gather together with Christian friends to discuss the many ways that God has blessed us. Our minds and spirits, like our bodies, tend to become sluggish if they are not spiritually fed, exercised, and focused.
In aerobics, it is important to keep our eyes focused on the instructor, in order to carry out the exercises she specifies. If our attention is focused elsewhere, we get out of phase with the group and lose the rhythm of the exercises. It is the same with our spiritual lives. If we shift our attention away from Christ, Who is the centre of our lives, we get out of tune with life around us, and lose our way.
Prayer: Lord, may we keep our eyes focused on You as the centre of our lives. If we lose You as our center, we will drift and lose our directions, ending up off course. Amen.
