Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (NASB)
Hebrews 11:1 – The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see. (MSG)
It was about a year ago when his wife was still in the hospital after serious heart surgery. She was slowly recovering, but he looked tired and worn.
During the Sunday morning "welcome time", I whispered to my husband that we needed to invite hubby out for lunch after the service. He looked at me in astonishment. "With what? We have no money with us!" This was very true. We had discussed our finances on the way to church! But I was also very sure that God wanted us to do the inviting, and so we did.
I began to pray that God would have someone hand us a twenty-dollar bill! The service ended. Still no cash.
A newly-married couple farther down the pew from us must have wondered why our mouths hung open in astonishment when they invited the three of us to their house for lunch! Although God did not answer my prayer in the manner I expected, this was an answer to my prayer. In the same manner, we can each look to God to answer our prayers.
Prayer: O great unpredictable God, who requires nothing of us but our obedience, thank You for always supplying the needs of that obeying! In Jesus' name. Amen.
