2 Timothy 1:6a – For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you. (NIV)
I had just hung up the phone from talking to friends of many years. These people became neighbours when we met in Florida after we first settled there for the winters, some eleven years ago.
I had a little project I wanted to do: publishing a book of devotionals. And when I finished it, I shared it with as many friends and relatives as I could. When the phone rang, and I heard the voice on the other end, I was thrilled that they had received their parcel from me.
God made it all worthwhile; He provided the gift for me, not only to share my project, but He gave me the inspiration to make it all possible. He gave me the ability and the means to afford my project so that I could share it. He fanned the flame to make it grow. What a wonderful return indeed.
Using our gifts to share with others is something we all can do. God is good, and in giving of ourselves back to Him, He never ceases to amaze. The love we can share will come back tenfold in a way that will thrill our souls.
Seek out your gift given to you by Him, for it is there for you to use to His glory, whether it is visiting the elderly, ministering to the sick, teaching Sunday School, leading a Bible study, or singing in a choir. Make use of the gift, and He will inspire you to limits you never thought possible. Don't hold back in fear, for He will fan into flames your gift, and make it grow.
Don't miss the call, for God needs each one of us. He will make it all worthwhile.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we humbly come to You, seeking Your gift, and wanting to learn of Your will to be done through each one of us. Open our spiritual eyes to see, our ears to hear Your call, to know You, and to be inspired by You. We give thanks to You each time Your Word touches someone new. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
