Psalm 91:14 – "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name." (NIV)

Proverbs 3:6 – In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

My last car had been an economy car, with independent locks on each door. For fifteen years, I'd struggled with getting all the doors locked at the same time. Now, I have another car that has one of those new keyless entry remotes that lock and unlock the car from a distance. For months, I locked, unlocked and "popped" the trunk with my new toy.

I'd bought lots of groceries one day, along with ice cream and other perishables. As I hit my remote to open the trunk, nothing happened. I hit the one to open the door, and nothing happened. I panicked, visualizing my ice cream melting and dripping onto the parking lot. Finally, in desperation, I closed my eyes and prayed "Jesus, help me."

A little calmer now, I noticed the keys to the car dangling from the chain that held my powerless remote. Then the truth began to surface. The manufacturers had been wise enough to make a key that would unlock the doors when the remote wouldn't work. That was what the second key on my chain was for!

How many times in life do we have the answer to our problems nearby, but fail to see it? In frustration, we look everywhere for an answer, until, finally, in desperation, we reach out to God, and find He's been there all along. Just as the car manufacturer knew that one day the battery in the remote would die, and an alternate way would be needed, when we turn to God, He will provide a way.

Prayer: Lord, help us to remember You are always with us. All we have to do is reach out. You have provided a way for us, but first we must calm down and ask for Your help. Amen.
