Tithes And Offerings

Thursday, April 3, 2003

Malachi 3:10 – "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this," says the Lord of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows." (NASB)

Approximately one year ago, I made a decision to donate half of my waitress's gratuities to our church in order to help pay off our church building's mortgage. This was over and above my regular financial donation of ten percent. I kept the other half of my tips for myself, "just in case" I should run short during the week!

A recent sermon on giving extra to benevolence prompted me to ask myself how I could give more. A still, small voice from within asked, "What about the other half of the gratuities that you get from the customers?" As I contemplated this question, the "what ifs" came to try and deter me from making the right decision.

I did make the decision to give the remaining sum to help the church beyond our four walls.

About one week later, a woman, named Anna, came up to me and asked me if I could stop at her home and select various items of clothing, to my liking, before she gave them away. I ended up with three full bags, valued at hundreds of dollars, plus a coat valued at four hundred dollars.

God's blessings vary to each one of us. Sometimes He blesses us financially, sometimes with good health, sometimes with material possessions, and sometimes with peace of mind. But the greatest blessing of all is that He gave us the gift of His only Son, Jesus.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for all Your blessings to us. Help us to bring our tithes and offerings into Your storehouse in order to further Your kingdom on earth, so that others may be blessed also. Amen.
