1 John 4:16 – And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. (NIV)
The starting of another work week can be hectic, with all the so-called helps we have to keep in touch and to keep on top of things. We have our computer with all the e-mail to answer, our cell phone, our pager, and the fax machine. All were meant to minimize our workload and speed things up.
For those who are engaged in full-time work, and who also have the responsibility of raising their children at home, these so-called helps can become somewhat of a hindrance when things become busier and busier with crowded schedules. There are still lunches to make, children to take to school and to pick up later, the evening meal to make, and, possibly, hockey practice, music lessons, dance classes, or other appointments generally requiring taxi service to be provided. There is housework, shopping, and laundry to keep up.
Our lives seem filled with too much, too many, too often, leaving very little for the special time we need to love one another and show devotion to each other.
That pretty well covers the day, but did we leave a time slot in our busy lives for God? Did we take the time to open our Bible to read His word, to listen to Him speak to us?
We seem to find time to keep the appointments with the doctor and the dentist and all the things we see as necessary, but what about the most necessary thing in our lives? Did we keep that appointment with God?
Prayer: Dear Lord, we tend to fill our lives with so many things that we see as necessary. We busy our lives to the point of exhaustion. God, help us to pick out the necessity of a right relationship with You and each other. Help us to slow down and keep our appointments with You. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
