True Love

1 John 4:7 – Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (NIV)

Going back a few years, I remember the old hall desk on which stood a set of weigh scales. They looked old-fashioned, but they weren't that old. They were the kind one could set a weight on either side; too much on one side tilted the scales.

I thought of life, and the sorrows we have gone through, then I thought of the joys we have experienced. As I pondered these two, I realized that what balanced the scales was love, love that holds us together in all our circumstances.

May we all be reminded that, throughout life, we need not wonder or worry about the balance of joy and sorrow, if we believe in God, and experience all things in His love. For it is God's love that balances out the heavy weight of suffering we go through in life.

Holding this in mind, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all come together in love, not only to honour our Saviour, Jesus Christ, but to grow in His love. For it is in Him we will find the true balance on the scales of life that far outweighs any of our sorrows or our joys, in love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 – Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we come to You this day, humbled in the love You gave for us through Your Son Jesus Christ. You have given us the balance we need to live our lives. It is through You we grow in our love for one another, and, in doing so, we come together to praise and worship You in Jesus' name. Amen.
