Living Day By Day

1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. (NIV)

Ephesians 6:13a – Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground. (NIV)

Wouldn't you know it! The first winter we spend in our new community has turned out to be the worst winter we've had in at least ten years, if not more! There is so much snow, we hardly know where to put it. I've been trying to keep our deck shovelled off on a daily basis, and not let it build up. However, last week my husband bought a roof rake and started to bring the snow down off the roof. Now there is three feet of snow on most of the deck, and six feet in some places. It will take us at least a week to get it all off our deck.

This reminds me of sin, and how it can pile up on us, if we don't tackle it on a daily basis. If we let it pile up, then we have to work even harder to overcome it. Every day, we need to come to God in prayer, and seek His guidance for our lives, and His help in overcoming the temptation to sin. I have a favourite quote that I keep taped to my computer: "One day at a time". Sometimes our sins and temptations can be overwhelming, but, if we just take things one day at a time, it is easier to handle them. God is faithful, and He will guide us and lead us in His ways — one day at a time — as long as we seek Him with all our heart. As the Scripture says, we will never be tempted beyond what we can handle, and God always provides a way out. (1 Corinthians 10:13) And let us remember this: every temptation is an opportunity to trust God.

Let us always be ready by:

  • Keeping the faith

  • Seeking God's will

  • Praying for strength every day

  • Reading the Word

  • Trusting God

  • Being obedient.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, great is Your faithfulness to us. You are holy, O God, but we are sinners. Forgive us when we sin against You, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. We are weak but You are strong. Grant us the strength to live our lives one day at a time, seeking to please You in all that we do and say. In Jesus' name. Amen.
