Creature Or Creator?

Revelation 22:8-9 – I, John, saw all these things with my own eyes, heard them with my ears. Immediately when I heard and saw, I fell on my face to worship at the feet of the Angel who laid it all out before me. He objected, "No you don't! I'm a servant just like you and your companions, the prophets, and all who keep the words of this book! Worship God." (MSG)

Somewhere near Atlanta, as I was driving very ill parents home from Florida, God allowed me a bare glimpse of the angels crouched on the four corners of the car. The fifth one stood like a sentinel on the roof, one hand shading his eyes from the sun, his robes billowing in the breeze.

A friend knew the severe stress I was under. She was praying for angels to surround us as we travelled. That picture in my mind's eye was exactly what I needed to calm my fears.

As you might expect, I like angels, but they are a little too popular where I live. Uninformed people are attending classes trying to find and name their own angel. They want to pray to it and ask it for wisdom and guidance.

If we have a product problem, we write to the owner of the company. Why is it that we are willing to settle for second- or even third-best in our spiritual life?

Prayer: Father God, Your word is so clear. You alone are worthy of our worship. You created everything, including angels. Forgive us when we waste our worship on the created. Guide us instead to the true worship of You, our Creator. Never let us settle for anything but the best. In Jesus' name. Amen.
