Counterfeit Wisdom

Friday, January 10, 2003

1 Timothy 4:1-2 – But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times, some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron. (NASB)

I recognized them all when they were safely ensconced in my kitchen! But could I do it now? Baking powder, flour, sugar, salt, and several other white powdered items were no longer in their safe little labelled tins, bags, and boxes. They all looked the same. The bridal shower organizer had placed samples of each in clear plastic bags.

Years of handling the real thing made my job difficult but not impossible. I won the prize!

Like bankers, who study only real money, familiarity helps us spot the counterfeit. We must ponder our original, God, whose wisdom can help us see the difference between the true and the false.

James 3:17 – But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy, and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. (NASB)

Prayer: Lord, thanks for the warning. Fill us with your wisdom so that we never fall away from the faith. In Jesus' name. Amen.
