Good, Better, Best

Colossians 1:9-10 – For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (NASB)

I was making do with my old plastic travel mug, even though it wasn't the least bit satisfactory. My coffee tasted funny and often it was cold.

Finally, I treated myself to a stainless steel travel mug. I don't know why I waited so long! It's bigger than my old plastic one, and it actually keeps the coffee hot.

Life is like that, isn't it? God is nudging us toward a new job, different friends, or a healthier lifestyle, but we stubbornly cling to the old familiar ways. We bear fruit where we are, by the cup, while God is yearning to help us produce a bushel.

We settle for what we know we can do, when He wants us to go beyond our wildest imagination.

Prayer:

    Good, better, best, Lord,
    Never let me rest,
Till my good is Your better,
And my better is Your best.
      Amen.
