I stood looking at the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, marvelling at the beauty, majesty, and control of the water. Tremendous amounts of water were pouring over the Falls, and yet it was safe for a cruise boat to go into the mist created by the water.
What really fascinated me was the rainbow over the Falls. This was an extra bonus I hadn't expected, but God had put it there. It was a complete rainbow with both ends visible as they entered the water. If there really were a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, surely someone could find it here.
I recalled the promise God had made to man after the water had stood above the mountains:
Genesis 9:13,15 – I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Psalm 104:7-9 – But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys to the place you assigned for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. (NIV)
What a wonderful promise God made to man and sealed it with the symbol of the rainbow.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your rainbow and your wonderful promise. Thank you for the beauty and power of your creation, which testifies to your greater beauty, power, and creativity. Amen.
