John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (NIV)
1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. (NIV)
I'm one of those people whose moods change with the weather. On a dull, grey day — and we've had a lot of those lately — I tend to feel a little down, listless, but the minute the sun comes out, I feel quite different. I have more energy, and I feel much more positive. What a difference a little sunshine can make!
And what a difference the Son, Jesus Christ, can make when we allow Him to shine in our lives! Jesus came to bring us out of the darkness of despair and negativity into the glorious light of His love. There is no darkness in Him at all — only light. The more we let Jesus shine in our lives the more we become like Him. His light can then shine through us and reach into others' lives. Today, and every day, let us seek to walk in His light and spread His love to everyone around us.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord Jesus, for brightening our lives. Thank You for the sacrifice You made on the cross for each one of us so that we can be filled with Your Spirit and live in Your light. Shine upon us today and every day, so that we may walk in the light of Your love and so that the world may see You through us and also be drawn into Your glorious light. Shine, Jesus, shine. Amen.
