Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (NIV)
From my window I watched as nature created a beautiful pink and gold sponge painting against the background of the blue sky. Puddles of pink reflected in the lake below. I went to the window and listened; a duck's quack woke up the bird choir while an owl sat on the branch of the nearby pine tree and chanted his refrain, "Who, who, who are you?" A pair of eagles soared overhead, gliding and swooping to the music.
The crisp, silent air beckoned me to go out for a walk. Ben Nevis, my dog, wagged his tail in anticipation as we prepared to join the morning chorus. On our way up the driveway I could hear the tap, tap, tap of the woodpecker's beating out the rhythm for the sparrow's song.
A beaver, carrying a stick in his mouth, swam towards the morning light, home to his beaver lodge. God whispered in the silence, "Good morning my child. Enjoy your day. It's my gift to you."
Through creation, our God reveals beauty and majesty, and reminds us that his presence is with us from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same. What a marvellous God we serve!
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the beauty of the earth. Help us to find a new revelation of your majesty as we delight in your handiwork each and every day. Amen.
