Psalm 37:7a – Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. (NIV)
It was March Break and our two children came home with something we had not discussed. They had told their teacher that they would look after the gerbils for ten days during March Break, while the school was closed. It wasn't a real problem but you can guess who eventually had to look after our two guests.
After cleaning the cage and making sure that the gerbils were fed and watered, at my insistence, our two would disappear. I was left to observe these little creatures getting on the wheel in their cage. They would spend hours running around on this wheel, getting nowhere.
This brought to mind how often we use a lot of pent-up energy uselessly and get nowhere.
We spend anxious moments worrying about things that never happen and about things we cannot change, instead of waiting patiently for Him. We should not run around like gerbils using up our energy, becoming frustrated with life, sometimes growing angry with ourselves, as well as others.
This is precious time we should be spending developing a relationship with God, through prayer, devotion to His word, by reading our Bible and walking in His ways.
James 4:8 – Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. (KJV)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we spend too much time not heeding Your word and going around in circles. Help us, in times of frustration, to be still in Your presence, and to wait patiently upon You. Help us to trust in the promise that You will be near to us, when we make the effort to be near to You. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
