Love What You Do – Do What You Love

1 Corinthians 16:13 – Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong. Do all your work in love. (TEV)

The minibus careened around the corner, narrowly missing the horse and cart, and then drove bumper to bumper with the bus ahead. All this took place at about 100 kilometres per hour through crowded city streets in Georgetown, Guyana. I signalled my stop, and before I left, I looked at my driver and said, "Brother, you live by faith, the way you drive." Flashing white teeth brought quick words even as he sped away, "I dos whats I love."

I'm much less nervous now about traffic here. Maybe I've learned the rest of that scripture passage so I'm "alert, brave, and strong". That driver taught me a wonderful lesson about faith — a living expression, that is — doing what we love. Paul said it in today's scripture: "Do all your work in love."

Living out our faith and standing firm in our faith conviction ought to be no different from what was expressed by the driver: doing what we love. When we love God, living our faith is so much easier. Yes, God, that's how I will live today.

Prayer: Guard and guide us, God, as we travel through this day, walking as often by faith as by sight. We give you this day and ask you to use us in your service, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
