Not The Norm

Friday, October 26, 2001

Revelation 21:2-4 – I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (NIV)

When I was asked if I was going to Florida this year — with all the terrorist threatenings going on in the United States — I didn't hesitate to answer, "Yes, God willing."

Although things are "not the norm", we have to get on with life.

We must look forward and upward, taking one day at a time, trusting in God, not fearful of the events that are taking place around us at this present time. Life in Christ goes on until the appointed day of the Lord, which is in His timing.

Mark 13:7 – When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. (NIV)

In times when there are wars and rumours of wars, we must trust. Although the word war makes many people nervous, let us think about what the rest of the world has been experiencing for many years. War has been brought to our attention; the globe seems smaller and more vulnerable to be struck. Formerly it was easy to think that we would be never involved.

It is time we learned that we are no longer able to carry on in quite the same way. Let us reach out to those who have been enjoying life in the fast lanes. It's time for them to pull over to the curb, so to speak, to give some thought to where they are and where they are headed.

The Revelation given to John gives us a great picture of the dawning of the day of our eternal life with God, something we want to share with as many as we can. As the days grow shorter, we have been elected to gather as many as possible and point them to salvation and eternal life.

Revelation 12:12 – Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short. (NIV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we come to You, humbly seeking your favour. Help us, in these times that are not the norm, to have strength and courage to stand firm in our faith, knowing You are our God who will give us wisdom to come to You. Help us to bring others to a saving knowledge of Your grace. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
