Isaiah 60:18 – I will protect and defend you like a wall; you will praise me because I have saved you. (GNB)
A few days ago I went shopping for a lily for our front shrub bed. I purchased a splendid yellow hybrid lily. I am certain that, if this plant could talk, it would say, "I am so stately and tall and perfect in every way." I took this beauty home and carefully planted it in the ground. The day was lovely and she was so exquisite in every way. "Remember, I am so stately and tall and perfect in every way. Take good care of me."
The weather has been windy and my picture of perfection is now bent over, almost kissing the ground. "Don't you see that I need a little help here? I won't be perfect much longer, and in fact I may not survive at all?" I searched for protection and found a nearby juniper branch that I wrapped around this beauty.
At the day's end I surveyed this beauty again and the juniper was still holding her tightly in place. "Thank you for finding protection that I can count on." I reflected on the situation and thought that we are all like this beauty. We all need protection from the wind and the storms of life. I thought of God and rejoiced. "Thank You for being protection I can count on."
Prayer: Faithful God, You come to protect and defend us. Help us to reach out to You, to learn to trust You for protection in the storms of life, and, in turn, to rejoice when we experience Your protection and love. Amen.
