2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)
I have a small shed in my back yard that I have been wondering what I should do with. I would like an area to have a workshop, but I also need some storage. I was thinking about modifying the shed or adding on to it. I think what I will end up doing, though, is tearing down the old shed and replacing it with a completely new one. This way I am not bandaging something that really will not work for me in the long run. I will have a shed that will provide the space I need.
As I was thinking about tearing down my shed and replacing it, I thought about my relationship with Christ. We are a new creation in Christ. We are not reformed or rehabilitated. We are a completely new creation living in union with Christ. Since we are a new creation and the old has gone, there should be a change in our life as we live in response to this re-creation. We should never forget whose we are. In our new life we must submit our will to Christ.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we have come before you as sinners, but through your great love and mercy for us we have been forgiven, through the blood of your Son Jesus Christ. We pray that your Holy Spirit would guide us and strengthen us to live our lives, each one as a new creation in Christ. In Jesus' name. Amen.
