Sometimes I Get Annoyed!

The other day, I received a letter that sparked annoyance. Somewhere from within I was put in touch with this little boy that I carry with me from my earlier life. He is always there waiting. He hides around a corner, ready to jump out and say, "Surprise!" The adult aspect of me, that I have nurtured and respected, took me to one side and reasoned with this earlier voice: "Have a sense of proportion!" and, as adults tend to do, he took charge of the child so as to provide a more ordered and constructive response.

As an ex-child, and as a supposedly responsible parent, I have an insider's knowledge about children's wants: being excessive, spontaneous, loving, making demands of their elders and generally not being very concerned with the bigger picture past the end of their nose. In fact, I would go so far as to say that some people never grow up, they run here and there, they expend energy without regard to the cost, and they are generally effervescent. I used to be like that, if only my body could remember how!

I am so glad that I am a Christian. No matter how hard circumstances blow, I have learned that Jesus is there to steady the boat, no matter what. I guess that for me if it were not for Jesus with me to give my life a sense of order from within, this little boy would be allowed to run riot and play havoc with my life.

Yet Jesus loves the little boy in me. He watches out for his best interest, cares and nurtures him. Why? Perhaps it is because it is as this child I can run to him, arms outstretched, hug Him, and cry "Daddy", as He hugs me in return.

Prayer: Lord, as our Father, we rejoice in your presence. Thank you that you understand our natures, because you too were once a child on earth. Please forgive us our failures, receive us in your mercy, and give us a hug as your children. Keep us in the safety of your embrace; be our rock with us through the coming day. Amen.
